N.H. Insurance Department offers assistance

The New Hampshire Insurance Department should be looked upon as a resource by those who suffered damage in the wake of this week’s rainstorm, according to a statement released Wednesday by state Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny.

Information on beginning the insurance process following the recent flooding, a hotline number and disaster preparedness information can all be found at the department’s Web site, nh.gov/insurance. Hard copies of the information also are available.

According to Sevigny, steps have been taken to aid New Hampshire residents in contacting appropriate service staff.

“We are doing everything we can to make it easier for consumers to access information and to refer them to the appropriate places for assistance for losses suffered due to recent storms,” Sevigny said.

While flood insurance is administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Insurance Department can assist in making referrals and providing information and advice on how to proceed through the recovery period, according to Sevigny.

Sevigny also urges those who suffered damage caused from winds rather than high water contact his department for assistance.

Regardless of source of damage, Sevigny suggested anyone affected by the recent storm contact his or her insurance provider as soon as possible. – TRACIE STONE
