Mont Vernon has new chief

Jay Wilson is the new fire chief in Mont Vernon.

On April 6, members of the department elected Wilson to replace former Chief Kevin Pomeroy, who announced he would not seek another term in March.

Wilson, 47, of Mont Vernon, had been serving as first deputy prior to his election to chief. He has been with the department since 1979. “I’m very proud to have been elected,” said Wilson.

The chief’s position is a volunteer position. Wilson has worked in the emergency communications field in a dispatching role for the last 22 years.

Pomeroy will continue to serve as a deputy, said Wilson.
