Loon Mt. undergoes expansion
If all goes as planned, New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain will have two new chairlifts ready to take skiers and boarders into new territory this winter.
Plans are in place to construct two new chairlifts at Loon and nearby South Peak this summer as part of Phase II of an eight-to-10-year expansion project.
A new high-speed quad chairlift will serve almost 50 acres of intermediate and advanced terrain on Loon Mountain and a second connector quad chair will link South Peak to Loon Mountain’s existing lift and trail network.
This $10 million investment represents 35 percent of a total on-mountain expansion that will include new home construction with amenities including The South Peak Club, which will feature a pool pavilion, hot tubs, theater, dining and skier services, among other amenities. There also will be an extensive trail network for hiking and mountain biking.
The multi-phase project began in November 2005 with infrastructure development and construction of 67 homes. In addition to the on-mountain expansion, Phase II includes construction of slope-side condominiums, a resort lodge and amenities. – TRACIE STONE
