iCAD sued over subsidiary’s product
Nashua-based iCAD is the target of a $14.5 million lawsuit over a recalled product that it inherited when it purchased another company in December. The firm, which sells imaging systems used to detect cancer, bought Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Xoft in December for about $13 million in shares and stock. Xoft makes the Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy System and Axxent Flexishield Mini, used to deliver radiation therapy directly to cancer sites with minimal radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. However on Feb. 3, Xoft issued a volunteer recall of the Flexishield Mini after one health-care facility reported very small high-density particles – identified as tungsten shedding from the shield — on follow-up mammogram images of several patients who used the shield during radiation therapy.Xoft said that the particles didn’t harm the patients, but the lawsuit alleges personal injury with $14.5 million in damages. — BOB SANDERS/NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW
