From fire station to the farm
After 18 years at the helm of the Mont Vernon fire department, Kevin Pomeroy is hanging up his chief’s helmet, although he’ll continue to fight fires.
“I’ve had about 33 years at the department. I’d at least like to get to 40,” said the 50-year-old Pomeroy, who has been firefighting in town since he was 18 years old.
Pomeroy has held the volunteer chief position twice, from 1984-90, and then 1997 through the present.
Pomeroy, who runs the family dairy farm with his brother and father, said he wants to spent more time with his growing family (he is expected a second child) and business (the farm is building a huge, new barn and changing the way it does milking).
The next fire chief will be elected from the three fire wards, who are elected by residents.
