Five N.H. businesses filed for Feb. bankruptcy

Anyone who says there has been no economic progress in the Granite State in the last three years needs to read these numbers

Anyone who says there has been no economic progress in the Granite State in the last three years needs to explain this fact:  There were fewer than half as many bankruptcy filings last month than in February 2010, the year that was the high watermark for bankruptcy filings in New Hampshire.

Some 240 households and businesses filed for bankruptcy in February 2013, the lowest number in five years. It was 31 percent lower than the number of filings in February 2012 and 11 percent less than the number of bankruptcies filed in January 2013.

to put thing in perspective, in February 2010, 505 bankruptcy filings were recorded – the high point for the year was in March, when there were 586 filings.

The last time there were fewer filings than the amount filed in February was in December of 2007, when 215 filed.  

Five businesses filed for bankruptcy protection, the same number as in January:

 • McCollester Management Inc., formerly dba Panache and Plaza Beauty Salon, Keene, filed Feb. 1, Chapter 7. Assets: $0.  Liabilities: $89,003. 

 • Stonehill Builders LLC, Salem, filed Feb. 14, Chapter 7. Assets: $91,699.  Liabilities: $8,241,440.

 • Green Oak Realty Development LLC, Auburn, filed Feb. 18, Chapter 11. Assets: $2,553,588.  Liabilities: $2,465,535. 

 • K&B Crushing Equipment LLC, Auburn, filed Feb. 18, Chapter 11. Assets: $1,300,000.  Liabilities: $1,131,762. 

 • Seacoast Gastroenterology PLLC, Stratham, filed Feb. 22, Chapter 7. Assets: $74,735.  Liabilities: $2,085,923.
