Event to honor employers of disabled

The third annual statewide Employer Recognition Breakfast, which honors New Hampshire businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to improving employment opportunities for workers with disabilities, will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Radisson in Manchester.

Kicking off at 7:15 a.m., the free event will honor five companies that have actively implemented disability employment practices with the Employment Leadership Award.

According to the organizers, the winners demonstrated efforts to create opportunities that assist people with disabilities to develop the skills they need to obtain competitive employment; adopt inclusive hiring practices that allow people with disabilities to fairly compete for employment; and engage community partners to become a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Among those expected to attend the event — presented by the Granite State Employment project — is Gov. John Lynch.

“All the businesses nominated and recognized are clear examples that workers with disabilities are a positive and productive part of a skilled workforce,” said Denise Sleeper, administrator of the Granite State Employment Project. “We invite more businesses to look beyond disability as a limitation and focus on how workforce needs can be met with skilled workers that include people with disabilities.”
