Dollar General plans N.H. stores
Dollar General Corp. has announced plans to open 625 new stores across the country – including in New Hampshire.The Goodlettsville, Tenn., discounter already has more than 9,200 stores in 35 states — more retail locations than any retailer in the country, according to the company.While the specific number of stores being planned for the Granite State was not available, the company’s Web site lists that it looks for areas with a median household income of less than $75,000, building square footage of about 9,000 square feet and a minimum of 30 parking spaces, among other criteria.This latest expansion also brings new stores to Connecticut and Nevada.”Bringing our store model of convenience and value to more people in more states is an exciting opportunity for us,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and chief executive. “We believe the new communities and states we are entering will benefit from the new jobs, shopping choices and dedication to community found at Dollar General.”The company also said it would be remodeling or relocating 550 stores throughout the country.Dollar General sells such as items food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares and seasonal items. – CINDY KIBBE/NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW
