MANCHESTER -The New Hampshire African Information Center, a nonprofit organization serving the immigrant and refugee populations of Greater Manchester, is seeking volunteer tutors for its English literacy program.
Volunteers spend two hours per week helping immigrants and refugees from Sudan, Somalia, Liberia and other nations learn and practice the language skills necessary for success in their new homeland. Formal ESL training is not necessary, only a firm grasp of English and a desire to help. The NHAIC is also seeking volunteer drivers, as well as volunteer office help during the day and evening.
The NHAIC is a community-learning center dedicated to assimilating all people of African descent into the social, cultural, economic and political fabric of New Hampshire. The organization prepares immigrants and refugees for survival and prosperity in their new country, encouraging them to become a part of American culture while also educating non-Africans about the cultural heritage of Africa.
Those interested should contact Mariatou Scott at 627-7557 or nhaic@verizon.net.
