NH bankruptcies reach another new low
Two Granite State businesses file for protection in January
Once again, new lows in the number of New Hampshire bankruptcy filings – for the year, the decade and the quarter-century – were set in January.
The total number of bankruptcy filings in January was 124, 20 percent fewer than the number filed in January 2015.
For perspective, in January 2010, in the midst of the recession, there were more than triple the number of filings.
Aside from sharp drop in bankruptcies after the law was changed in 2005 to make it more difficult to file for protection, January had the smallest number of New Hampshire bankruptcy filings since November 1989.
Still, 122 households and two businesses had to notify their creditors that they probably won’t pay them what they are owed. In December, four businesses failed.
In January, both businesses filed for Chapter 11 reorganization.
They are:
• Nature's Nectar LLC, Manchester, filed Jan. 20, Chapter 11. Assets: $50,000 to $100,000. Liabilities: $100,000 to $500,000.
• 5-7 Mulberry Street Associates LLC, Dover, filed Jan. 27, Chapter 11. Assets: $1 million to $10 million. Liabilities: $100,000 to $500,000.
