NBT BANCORP REPORTS Q1 RESULTS
NBT Bancorp (NASDAQ: NBTB) reported first-quarter 2026 net income of $51.1 million, or $0.98 per diluted share, up from $36.7 million, or $0.77 per share, a year earlier. The results were down slightly from the fourth quarter of 2025, when the company earned $55.5 million, or $1.06 per diluted share.
Operating diluted earnings per share, a non-GAAP measure, totaled $0.97 in the quarter, compared with $0.80 in the first quarter of 2025 and $1.05 in the prior quarter.
The year-over-year comparison was significantly affected by NBT’s acquisition of Evans Bancorp, completed May 2, 2025. The deal added 200 employees, 18 banking offices in Western New York, $1.67 billion in loans and $1.86 billion in deposits. NBT issued 5.1 million shares valued at $221.8 million to complete the transaction.
President and CEO Scott Kingsley said the company delivered “solid first quarter results” driven by higher net interest income, expanding net interest margin and growth in fee-based businesses. He added that deposit growth across major customer segments reflected the strength of the bank’s franchise, while retirement plan administration fees benefited from organic growth initiatives.
Kingsley said the company remains focused on disciplined balance sheet management and continued investment in employees, markets and technology to support long-term shareholder value.
MANCHESTER LAW FIRMS MERGE
Grossman Tucker Perreault & Pfleger announced it has combined with attorneys and staff from Finch & Maloney, both of Manchester, NH, to form Secant Intellectual Property Law.
The merger unites two established intellectual property practices with a longstanding professional relationship and complementary expertise. The new firm will include more than 20 intellectual property attorneys, expanding its technical and legal capabilities to support clients in complex and evolving matters.
“Our clients will benefit from greater depth, broader expertise, and the same trusted relationships they rely on,” said Donald J. Perreault, partner of Secant Intellectual Property Law. “Our focus remains unchanged, delivering practical, responsive counsel that supports their long-term success.”
Secant IP will be headquartered in Manchester and will operate from GTPP’s current offices to maintain continuity for clients and staff.
The firms said the transition is designed to be seamless, with existing client relationships, legal teams and active matters continuing without interruption. Clients will retain their primary attorneys while gaining access to expanded services in intellectual property prosecution, litigation, regulatory and transactional matters, along with greater technical depth and increased capacity for complex, time-sensitive engagements.
PLANET FITNESS NAMED TO ‘MOST CHARITABLE COMPANIES’ LIST
Planet Fitness was named to Newsweek’s 2026 America’s Most Charitable Companies list, becoming the only gym brand recognized among the 300 companies included in the annual ranking. The company also placed in the top 10 of the Hotels, Dining & Leisure category.
The ranking, developed in partnership with Statista, evaluates companies based on charitable giving, community support and overall philanthropic impact.
Planet Fitness said the recognition reflects its continued investment in community partnerships and youth wellness initiatives, including its longtime collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Since 2016, the company has contributed more than $12 million to the organization to support youth well-being and community programs.
The company has also invested more than $300 million since 2019 in youth fitness and wellness through its High School Summer Pass program, which allows teenagers to work out at Planet Fitness clubs free during the summer.
“As a brand built on purpose, enhancing people’s lives and supporting our communities is core to who we are,” said McCall Gosselin, chief corporate affairs officer of Planet Fitness. She credited the company’s employees, franchisees and members for helping expand its charitable impact nationwide.
Newsweek’s 2026 ranking was based on a multi-step evaluation process that included surveys of more than 18,000 U.S. respondents, media and social listening analysis, and key performance indicator research.
