Some 115 New Hampshire individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy protection in February. – six fewer than both January 2020 and February 2019.
The two-month average of 118 filings is also quite a bit lower than average monthly filings of 148 in 2019. Last year’s average was two more than in 2018, and four fewer than in 2017.
Indeed, if you don’t count the statistical anomaly of 2005-2006 – when bankruptcy laws changed to make it much harder to file for protection – February’s filing total was the lowest of any February in three decades. You would have to go back to February of 1989, when only 81 filed.
There were six businesses-related filings. Four were individual filings that involved business-related debt, the same as last month, but two filed directly compared to one last month and none the month before that. They are:
