NH economist lowers forecast for 2026
A key New Hampshire economist has trimmed down to 2.2% his forecast for the growth in the state's economy this for 2026, citing lackluster consumer confidence and the uncertainty of the U.S. war against Iran.
Two N.H. firms receive Energy Department technology grants
The winning technologies have a strong potential for commercialization and job creation
Creare Inc. and Subsurface Insights LLC, both of Hanover, have been awarded six-figure Department of Energy grants to further their work in developing clean energy technologies.
The grants were among 88 awarded to businesses in 28 states. The agency said the winning technologies all have a strong potential for commercialization and job creation.
Creare actually was awarded two grants. The first, for $224,947, was earmarked for the company’s development of technology for low-cost production of uranium alloy fuel for advanced nuclear power plants.
Another grant, for $149,970, will be used to develop advanced compressor technology that the company said will reduce the costs of carbon dioxide capture and sequestration.
Subsurface Insights was awarded $149,999 to develop and demonstrate software that will automate the monitoring of remedial progress at contaminated sites.

The grants are funded through the department’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
