A delegation that included Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and representatives from seven New Hampshire businesses recently attended the Paris Air Show, which provides a showcase for smaller, regional businesses to connect with major players in the international aviation market.
Shaheen, D-NH, a top member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services and Appropriations Committees and the top Democrat on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led the group with Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas.
It’s the third year Shaheen and Moran have traveled to an international aviation event and the second to this Paris Air show, which is held every other year.
“What we saw in terms of technology and innovation and our industry in the U.S. was very impressive,” Shaheen said during an interview with NH Business Review. “We also heard that China had a very large presence at the air show. It’s a reminder of just how important all this innovation and new technology is, not just about our economy and commerce but also about national security.”
New Hampshire companies and organizations represented at the event included Albany Engineered Composites (Rochester), New Hampshire Ball Bearings (Peterborough), GE Aerospace (Hooksett), Safran (Rochester), RTX (Pelham and Hampton), Spartronics (Plaistow), Vibrac (Manchester) and the New Hampshire Aerospace and Defense Consortium.
“There was a lot of discussion about tariffs and the impact of the tariffs on both cost and lead time and supply chains, said Shaheen, who noted the presence of the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA) at the event. The Rhode Island-based group partners with business and government.
“It was a really good opportunity to promote the U.S. aerospace industry, which is a $2 billion a year industry and very important to New Hampshire. It’s our biggest export,” Shaheen said.
