Business and event happenings around the state of NH
1. On Oct. 9, Lakes Region Community Developers (LRCD) and North Branch Construction held a groundbreaking for Harriman Hill Phase III in Wolfeboro. This will add 30 affordable housing units on Beck Drive adjacent to Harriman Hill Phases I & II. The groundbreaking marks nearly 15 years of work by Lakes Region Community Developers and Eastern Lakes Region Housing Coalition to fully build-out the Harriman Hill development.
2. The Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate Create & Discover Learning Center’s new chapter as a sole proprietorship. Create & Discover is at 176 Main St. in Salem. The new children educational center blends imagination with education through handson, theme-based lessons that inspire confidence, curiosity and creativity.
3. Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and members of the community recently celebrated the new concession stand and extended brick walkway at Field of Dreams Park and Playground in Salem. Field of Dreams, at 48 Geremonty Drive in Salem, offers spaces for play and connection with nature. Guests enjoyed refreshments from the concession stand and heard music by The Hard Passes.
4. Meredith Village Savings Bank purchased $10,000 in tax credits from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority to help support the Home Possible Project, a Lakes region nonprofit that provides long-term supportive housing for adults with developmental disabilities. Home Possible is fundraising to build a community residence in Gilford. The new space will feature 12 individual apartments, with a shared kitchen, dining room and more.
5. The Foundation for Seacoast Health has partnered with Great Bay Community College to help remove obstacles that can keep students in health care from completing a degree or certificate. Barriers can include transportation or licensing costs. The two organizations together provided qualifying students with $20,000 during the 2025-26 academic year through the Healthcare Pathways Pilot Initiative.
6. To celebrate National Propane Day, the Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Palmer Gas & Oil held a ribbon-cutting to mark the grand opening of a new fuel storage facility at 6 Hall Farm Road in Atkinson. The expansion will boost propane capacity and strengthen service reliability, which are critical during unpredictable weather.
7. This fall, carpentry students at NHTI-Concord’s Community College participated in community projects by volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Habitat for Humanity to repair local homes. In October, they worked on a Habitat for Humanity project in Allenstown demolishing a rotting deck and replacing it with a new landing at the home’s entrance. In September, for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the class built beds for children who do not have them.
8. On Sept. 25 at the Local Clean Energy Solutions Conference in Manchester, representatives from local governments celebrated six municipalities’ recent SolSmart designation for solar readiness. Municipalities worked with Clean Energy New Hampshire and the SolSmart program to help reduce costs, remove barriers and increase access to solar power.
