Business and event happenings around the state of NH
1. Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the grand opening of Veterans Plaza in Salem. The plaza can be a place for the public to pay respects and reflect on the courage and dedication of our veterans. The plaza, along the scenic rail trail, is directly across from the Chamber office, and parking is available in the nearby municipal lot.
2. Franklin Savings Bank recently granted $10,000 to Operation Delta Dog for its continuing effort to train dogs to become specialized service companions for veterans. The grant will help the organization reach a goal of training more dogs than ever. Operation Delta Dog, a nonprofit, is dedicated to reducing veteran suicide rates by rescuing and training homeless dogs, who can help vets suffering from PTSD, military sexual trauma and traumatic brain injuries.
3. Mortgage Loan Officer Elizabeth Brothers, VP Commercial Loan Officer Tina Simpson and Business Development Officer Samantha LeClair recently presented a donation to the Belknap Special Operations Group in Alton. The presentation included a tour of the BSOG recently refurbished armored rescue vehicle. BSOG supports law enforcement in Belknap County with a specialized team of officers who can respond to high-risk situations.
4. Meredith Village Savings Bank recently announced its support of the Loon Preservation Committee as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The bank presented the group with a $5,000 donation to help restore the loon population in New Hampshire. Founded in 1975, the Loon Preservation Committee monitors the productivity of loon populations, and fosters a better understanding of loons. 5. Executive Councilor Janet Stevens has been awarded the Joseph T. Freeman Humanitarian Award by the Kim Nichols Center. The award recognizes Stevens for her advocacy in helping adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. As executive councilor for District 3, Stevens represents 266,000 residents. The Humanitarian Award is named for Joseph Freeman, who served as executive director of the Kim Nichols Center for more than 40 years.
6. Revo Casino and Social House held its second annual Rebels With a Cause gala to celebrate the ongoing impact of charitable gaming in New Hampshire. More than 600 guests attended the gala to recognize the nonprofit’s outstanding team members. Rebels With a Cause, Revo Casinos’ charitable program, has contributed more than $16 million to more than 350 nonprofit organizations, including Easterseals NH, Families in Transition, and the New Hampshire Food Bank.
7. Wonderland Thrift Shop at 28 Portsmouth Ave., Stratham, recently awarded $6,000 in donations to Seacoast-area nonprofits. The donations were made possible through community clothing donations and proceeds from the shop’s sales. Six area nonprofit organizations each received $1,000 including Seacoast Family Promise, Dover Children’s Home, Connor’s Climb Foundation, Exeter Area Womenade, End 68 Hours of Hunger, and Seacoast Village Project.
