Bloomingdale's Outlet to open at new Merrimack mall

A Bloomingdale's Outlet will be among the 100 stores opening this spring at the Merrimack Premium Outlets, the high-end clothing retailer announced Wednesday.

Macy's Inc., owner of the Bloomingdale's department store chain, made the announcement in a press release. In the release, the company said the new Merrimack store will be one of five new Bloomingdale's Outlets planned across the country.

The 25,000-square-foot Bloomingdale's Outlet will serve as an anchor store at the outlet center, which is slated to open in early June. About 35 people are expected to be employed at the store.

Bloomingdale's rolled out its outlet concept in 2010, one of which opened this past fall at the Wrentham Premium Outlets. Bloomingdale's Outlets offer the upscale brands sold at its department stores at discounts of 35 to 70 percent off retail prices.

Its Merrimack outlet will offer a range of apparel and accessories, including women's ready-to-wear, men's, children's, women's shoes, fashion accessories, jewelry, handbags and intimate apparel.

Bloomingdale's is the second anchor store to be confirmed at the center. The first, which was announced last August, is Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, the outlet arm of the luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue. That store will be 28,000 square feet and will offer off-price designer clothing and accessories. The Merrimack outlets will mark the first time Bloomingdale's or Saks opens any of its stores (outlet or department) in the Granite State.

More stores confirmed

Simon Property Group, which owns the Merrimack outlets, has kept mum about which stores will be moving in this spring, but several other future tenants have outed themselves as they've begun scouting for job applicants online.

They include Chico's, Columbia Sportswear, Levi's and Aerosoles outlets. Chicken Now, a cooked-to-order, fast-food chicken restaurant, has also announced it will be opening in the center's food court.

Merrimack Patch, AOL's hyperlocal website that reports on Merrimack, also recently uncovered nearly two dozen other stores that will open at the outlets.

Michael Currier, the town's fire chief, gave Patch a list of 22 retailers whose building and fit-up permits had been approved.

Those retailers include Nike, Gap, Hanes, Banana Republic, Reebok, Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Coach, Ann Taylor Loft, Ann Taylor, Guess, Timberland, Talbots, Carter's Babies and Kids, OshKosh B'Gosh, PacSun, Wilson Leather, Bose, Michael Kors, Ecko and Gymboree.Among the largest of those stores are Nike at 13,000 square feet, Gap at 10,500 square feet, and Hanes at 10,500 square feet.

The outlets are located off Exit 10 on the Everett Turnpike and will be completed in two phases. The first phase, which is expected to be completed by June, will include 430,000 square feet of retail space. The second phase is expected to include another 120,000 square feet of retail space and a hotel. — KATHLEEN CALLAHAN/NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW
