Is unemployment uptick a concern in NH?
So far this year, the unemployment rate is ticking up, reaching 3% in February and 3.1% in March through July, and dipping slightly back to 3% in August
Developer Anthony DiLorenzo, the owner of the former Thomas J. McIntyre federal building property, says recent city zoning changes and a historic preservation easement are making it “very difficult” to redevelop the property.
DiLorenzo pointed out “in order to receive a conditional use permit to increase any proposed building height by 15 feet from 40 feet to 55 feet, current zoning requires 50% of the area to be community space and include a percentage of work-force housing.”
In response to questions about his plans, DiLorenzo added, “In addition, there is a historic preservation easement that requires much of the McIntyre building to remain. Although not impossible, these conditions make it very difficult to develop the property in an economically feasible manner while still providing public space, which will benefit the community.”
DiLorenzo, the owner and founder of Key Auto Group, closed on the 2.1-acre former McIntyre building property at 80 Daniel St. in December after bidding $9 million for it in a General Services Administration online auction.
The property is located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, just a short distance from the city’s popular waterfront.
