Too much, too little, too late . . . too bad for car tax bills
Even if you get your bill for your car taxes late, you still have to pay it.
The city tax collector’s office announced that motor vehicle bills for August will be mailed late because the state has just approved a rate increase.
The new state law increased the state portion of the registration effective Aug. 1.
In the meantime, the state motor vehicle department is in the process of updating billing records, which the city doesn’t expect to receive until later this week.
Thus, motor vehicle owners with August renewals won’t receive their renewal notice until about Aug. 1, officials say.
