Tavern to get extra exit

The town of Milford is allowing a new tavern at 40 Nashua Street to erect an emergency staircase on the Putnam Street side of the building.

The exit will include a landing and a set of stairs, said town building inspector Bill McKinney. Although Putnam Street is town property, “we looked at it as a good way to partner with a business,” he said.

Granite Town Tavern has a building permit for interior renovations, including a kitchen. The building most recently was the home of a pet grooming business and before that, Milford Antiques.

McKinney said he expects the business to open within a month.

Kurt Thomas of Merritt Island, Fla. is the owner.
