Swine flu message sent to SAU 39 families

Student families received an automated message from SAU 39 Superintendent Mary Athey Jennings on Tuesday notifying them that an Amherst elementary school student has the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.

The student was already out sick when the flu was confirmed, according to Maryanne Buonadonna, executive assistant to the superintendent.

“The child has been at home,” said Buonadonna.

The school district is following current state guidelines to keep the school open and advise the student to stay home until well after symptoms have disappeared, said Buonadonna.
