Student named president

Nashua-native Katherine Kang has been elected as president of the National Leadership Council for the 2009-10 academic year.

Kang is a sophomore majoring in accounting at the University of Texas at Austin.

The NLC serves as a student advisory board to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honors organization inviting high-achieving freshmen and sophomores at more than 235 colleges and universities across the country.

Kang is also afforded the privilege of a one-year term on NSCS’ Board of Directors, which includes executives from corporations, universities and nonprofits.

The responsibilities of the president of the NLC include providing feedback and guidance to the national office, participating in the scholarship recipient selection process, serving as the face of NSCS at events and acting as a resource for other NSCS members.

Kang was chosen to serve as president because she demonstrated a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and leadership throughout her service on the NLC during the 2008-09 academic year, when she served as executive vice president, according to NSCS officials.
