Sex offender held on alleged violation

A convicted sex offender was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly making contact with a Hudson boy Monday afternoon.

A motorist told police that around 2 p.m. he noticed a man in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee trying to lure a boy into the vehicle. When he approached the pair, the driver of the Jeep fled. The reporting driver couldn’t tell if the boy was in the Jeep or if he too had fled, so he called police and gave them the Jeep’s license plate number, police said.

Police tracked the license plate to the owner of the Jeep, Vernon Ingersoll Jr., a Manchester man, 63, police said.

Later in the day, Manchester police, Hillsborough County sheriffs and state probation and parole officers located the Jeep, police said.

Ingersoll was convicted of possessing child pornography in 2002 and of felonious sexual assault on a victim younger than 13 in 1989, according to the state’s sexual offender registry.

Police took Ingersoll into custody for allegedly violation his probation, police said.

Hudson police also located the boy and determined he made it safely home, police said.

The boy told police Ingersoll approached him and offered him money to buy a soda. The boy did not feel comfortable, fled the area and told his parents what happened, police said.

Hudson police are still investigating the incident.
