Selectmen to meet on FEMA warrant

The town qualifies for federal money to remove trees, branches, and other refuse left along right-of-ways in the wake of last month’s ice storm.

Before applying for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, however, officials must get the OK from taxpayers.

That’s why selectmen on Monday will be discussing a proposed warrant article for $200,000 recommended by public works director Jeff Babel.

The town would have to commit the full cost of the cleanup and would be reimbursed $150,000, town administrator Troy Brown said.

If officials agree to take advantage of the 75 percent match, they will ask for voters’ approval at town meeting in March.

During a brief presentation to selectmen, Babel said the federal funding would not cover the cost of removing debris from private property.

The Board of Selectmen meets on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall.
