School bus loses power, causes traffic delays
A bus with an electrical problem caused minor traffic delays on Lowell Road on Thursday afternoon.
A bus carrying students from Hudson Memorial School lost power while turning right onto Lowell Road from Roosevelt Avenue, near Bush Hill Cycle Works. The driver was unable to make the turn and came to a stop inches from a tree on the other side of Lowell Road at the entrance to Dana Drive.
No students were hurt and there was no damage to the bus, according to Jerry Cirois, manager of Student Transportation of America, the Hudson School District’s bus company.
Police were on scene directing traffic around the stalled bus, which was blocking Dana Drive and the southbound lane of Lowell Road.
Marilyn Patinskas, a Hudson Police Department crossing guard stationed nearby, said she had stopped traffic to make way for the bus’s turn.
“It could have been worse,” she said.
The students were moved to another bus, and at 3:30 p.m., a mechanic was on the way to repair the disabled bus, Cirois said.
