School board to talk of cutting budget 1%

The Board of Education will meet Thursday to discuss how to cut 1 percent from its $88.5 million budget proposal. Last week, the board met with Mayor Donnalee Lozeau, who asked members to figure out a way to cut $860,000 from the budget proposal they approved and submitted to her office.

Lozeau had asked all city departments to come in with no more than a 1 percent increase over the previous budget. The budget submitted by the school board would have been a 2.47 percent increase.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the school district administration office at 141 Ledge St. There will be a period for public comment at the beginning of the meeting.
