Running for office?

The period for candidates to file for city office is approaching fast.

The filing period begins Aug. 25, and the city clerk must receive the nominating petitions by 5 p.m. Sept. 4.

While there is no mayoral race this year, a number of city positions are up for election. They include all nine ward aldermen and the three aldermen-at-large positions now being occupied by board President Bolton, David Deane and Fred Teeboom.

Other positions up for election are four Board of Education positions, two fire commissioners, two Board of Public Works members, and from each ward, one moderator, one chairman and three selectmen.

Paperwork necessary for filing will be available online at www.gonashua.com by following the elections link on the city clerk department’s page. However, the nominations can’t be filed online, and must be mailed or hand-delivered to the office.

Fifty certified nominating petitions are required for a citywide candidate and 15 certified nominating petitions are required for a ward candidate, according to the city clerk’s office.
