Rodgers picked to lead Hudson School Board

HUDSON – Veteran School Board member Gary Rodgers was named the board’s next chairman at Monday night’s meeting.

Rodgers, who was serving as vice chairman, will succeed Dave Alukonis, who was defeated by newcomer Laura Bisson in last week’s election.

Member Lee Levesque was named vice chairman.

Rodgers, whose three-year term expires in 2011, thanked his fellow members, who confirmed his selection unanimously. He also commended Alukonis, saying “Dave set the board in the right direction . . .” and said he plans to continue the work Alukonis has contributed.

Alukonis served nine years on the board – eight as chairman – before Bisson won the seat, 1,521 to 1,302, in the only School Board race in this year’s election.

In other action, Superintendent Randy Bell said the district will soon be advertising and taking applications for the seat that became vacant when member Brenda Levesque resigned in February.
