Rodents interrupt phone service in Amherst

AMHERST – Roughly 100 customers were without phone service Friday, said a spokesperson for FairPoint Communications.

Jill Wurm of FairPoint said customers on Boston Post Road, near the Amherst-Milford town line, were affected.

Wurm said technicians were working to repair a fiber cable chewed by rodents. She said the service would be restored later this evening.

According to Wurm, 49 customers called the phone company on Friday.
“There are probably more,” Wurm said. “There could be more than 100.”
