Plans begin for town's 250th

Amherst will celebrate its 250th anniversary in September 2010.

Organizers Will Ludt and Carolyn Quinn told selectmen Monday they plan to have an elaborate three-day event, which they say may include a “spectacular” guest, whose identity they could not reveal.

They also asked selectmen to consider a 2009 warrant article for $10,000 to add to another $10,000 the already have.

Selectmen George Infanti had a novel reason for supporting the expenditure. “We’re not going to be around for the next one,” Infanti said of the town’s next big anniversary.
