On Day of Giving, chapters hope for gifts

Since last week’s devastating ice storm, the Red Cross has set up several local emergency shelters, providing free assistance. All of this help is made possible through donations.

Coincidentally, Monday was the American Red Cross Day of Giving, when all chapters nationwide ask for donations to the Disaster Relief Fund.

According to the Red Cross, this has been an unusually busy year. Between January and October, the Red Cross had already responded to more than 70 large-scale disasters.

“The fund has been depleted as a result of a very busy year for disasters, including a record number of tornadoes, severe flooding in the central United States and an active hurricane season,” according to a statement from the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is now accepting financial donations for the disaster relief fund. Those looking to donate can call or send a check to any of the following local Red Cross chapters:
