New windows all around

LYNDEBOROUGH – The parking area beside the fire station on Route 31 is newly enlarged and paved, the floor of the station has been painted, and new windows have been installed on the lower floor.

Fire Chief Rick McQuade met with selectmen on Tuesday to present an update on the work and to ask if replacing the upper floor windows is on the approved list of repairs. Selectmen said it was.

McQuade noted a “few peculiarities” in the installation of the original windows in the masonry that required some unexpected work to make the new windows fit, even though they had ordered windows “slightly smaller than the originals” to allow for the installation.

“The upstairs windows will be easier,” McQuade said.

The renovations were approved when it was learned that the newest fire truck would fit into the present station, allowing the construction of a new substation to be postponed for a few years.
