Mont Vernon school budget hearing set for Thursday

MONT VERNON – The school district budget hearing session will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Village School.

At this time, the budget is still being prepared, according to Board Chairman Jayson Darula, with a work session set for later this week.

“Contracts with the teachers and the nonunion staff are still being negotiated,” he said.

In preliminary work on the budget, Darula said, the operating budget is down from this year. “We are trying not to dilute the curriculum,” he said, adding that there would probably be some sacrifices.

>>Town Meeting ‘09<< He also noted that the district revenue would be down around $300,000 and there would be no money to return to the town, as was the case last year. At the hearing, registered voters will be given a presentation of the proposed operating budget and other warrant articles. The annual School District Meeting will be Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Village School.
