McGrath files for recount

A candidate who finished just 12 votes out of the running for one of two open seats on the Board of Selectman in Tuesday’s election has filed a request for a recount.

Town Clerk Patty Barry said that Marilyn McGrath, who finished with 1,574 votes to incumbent Ben Nadeau’s 1,586, came in to file the recount request on Friday afternoon, shortly before the 5 p.m. deadline.

Barry said by law, the recount needs to take place within 10 days. She expects to contact Nadeau early next week and set a mutually agreeable date to hold the recount.

Incumbent Shawn Jasper took first in the race, which is for a three-year term, with 1,787 votes.

There were also 142 write-in votes cast, but they didn’t affect the outcome of the three-way race, Barry said.
