Man struck by big rig near highway
A man was hit by a tractor-trailer truck while walking along the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua.
The unidentified man suffered serious injuries after being struck in the northbound lanes of the highway around 4 a.m. Tuesday, Nashua Fire Rescue Capt. Kevin Kerrigan said.
Kerrigan had no idea why the man was on the highway, near the Exit 5 off ramps and adjacent to the Porsche and Audi car dealership off Main Dunstable Rd. The man could have been crossing the highway, from the east side of Main Dunstable Rd. to the west section of the street on the other side of the turnpike.
The man suffered broken bones and internal injuries and was transported to the trauma center of Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Kerrigan said.
The truck driver was unharmed, and pulled over, Kerrigan said. The driver also couldn’t figure out why the man was on the highway, he said.
“He was scratching his head,” Kerrigan said.
The state police trooper who handled the incident wasn’t immediately available for comment.
