Man accused of fleeing crash scene

A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly rear-ending a car on Central Street and fleeing the scene.

Hudson police responded to a three-car accident on Central Street near Kimball Hill Road around 6 p.m. Police determined that a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Mark Merrick, 38, of Dracut, Mass., hit a Ford Taurus driven by Pamela Pitt, 56, of Windham, from behind while she was waiting at a red light at the intersection of Central Street and Kimball Hill Road.

The impact sent Pitt’s car into a Ford F-150 driven by Craig Flaherty, 48, of Londonderry, police said.

After the crash, Merrick left the scene on Kimball Hill Road, leaving his front license plate at the scene, police said.

A few minutes later Pelham police spotted Merrick’s vehicle on Bush Hill Road, just beyond the Hudson/Pelham line, police said.

None of the drivers needed to be transported to a hospital, Hudson police Sgt. Tad Dionne said.

Merrick was arrested and charged with driving as a habitual offender, leaving the scene of an accident, both of which are felonies, and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, second offense, Dionne said.

Merrick is being held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections on $15,000 cash or sure bail, Dionne said.
