Litchfield man faces several charges

Elvin Ealy was drunk, unlicensed and on bail Thursday morning, while driving his blue Jaguar along I-95 with a loaded 9 mm handgun under the seat, police allege.

According to an affidavit by State Trooper David Shepard, he stopped the sports car with vanity tags “REDDI” at 4:13 a.m., which was being driven by Ealy, 27, of 25 Jeff Lane, Litchfield.

The trooper’s report says he asked Ealy how much he had to drink, to which he responded, “I’m OK to drive. I don’t drink a lot.”

After performing a series of roadside field sobriety tests, Ealy was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated-subsequent offense, driving after revocation of his license, and carrying a firearm without a license, according to police reports.

While troopers prepared the Jaguar to be towed from the scene, a loaded 9 mm Ruger was found under the passenger seat, according to Shepard’s affidavit.

Police allege that at the time of his arrest, Ealy was on bail for an unlicensed gun charge out of Manchester and had been twice previously convicted for driving while intoxicated.

Ealy is scheduled to return to the court for a May 27 trial.
