Lawyer tapped for federal spot

A constitutional lawyer and Harvard professor with connections to Nashua has been tapped by President-elect Barack Obama to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

The Boston Globe reports that Cass Sunstein has accepted the position, which falls under the Office of Management and Budget, and oversees environmental, health-care and safety issues. Sunstein’s aunt Ann Sunstein lives in Nashua.

Cass Sunstein and Obama taught at the University of Chicago Law School.

Sunstein, a Massachusetts native, is a professor at Harvard Law School and just published a book, “Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness.”

An avid tennis player, Sunstein attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Ann Sunstein said, and now splits his time among Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. He’s married to Samantha Power, a Harvard professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, according to the Globe article.

“He’s a sharp guy,” Ann Sunstein said.
