Hearings set in Amherst

AMHERST – School budget and bond hearings for SAU 39 have been scheduled.

The Souhegan Cooperative School District will hold its public hearing on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Souhegan High School. An hour later, the Amherst School District will hold its public hearing at the same location.

Officials are proposing a 2.1 percent increase to Souhegan High School’s budget, which is about $17.7 million. The Souhegan School District covers the high school, which has students from Mont Vernon and Amherst.

The Amherst School Board is proposing a 1.99 percent increase to its district’s operating budget, which is about $23.1 million. The Amherst School District covers Clark and Wilkins elementary schools and the middle school.

At the Amherst School District hearing, a warrant article regarding the support staff contract will be discussed.

The budget hearing for the Mont Vernon School District, which covers Mont Vernon Village School, has been scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12., at 7 p.m. at the Village School.

The proposed Mont Vernon School District operating budget represents a 1 percent decrease; however, that does not figure in increases associated with a new teacher’s contract. The teacher’s contract, the cost of has not been determined, will be voted on as a separate warrant article.

Mont Vernon’s budget is about $4.5 million.

Petition warrant articles are due Tuesday for the Souhegan and Amherst school districts. The due date for Mont Vernon is Monday, Feb. 9. Petition warrant articles should be turned in to the SAU office at 1 School St., Amherst.
