Food drive packs on the pounds
EDITOR’S NOTE: Around the Towns, which typically runs Saturdays, appears in the Friday edition of The Telegraph this week because there will be no Saturday paper.
Terry Tansey, of Merrimack, an employee at UnitedHealthcare of New England, helped raise 1,812 pounds of food in an employee-driven food drive for the New Hampshire Food Bank.
“Given our economy, now more than ever, people need help with the basics,” said Kelly Galan, site director, UnitedHealthcare. “Supporting New Hampshire Food Bank was an employee-driven effort. Our New Hampshire employees resoundingly wanted to help the state ‘take a bite out of hunger.’ ”
In addition to the food drives, held in Nashua and Hooksett from June 8-13, the employees held a yard sale to collect additional food donations and teamed with local students to plant a food garden.
