Duo charged over stolen checks

A city teen and an elderly city resident each face felony charges after separate police investigations into the cashing of stolen checks.

Police arrested Desmond Copeland, 19, and Pedro Benitez, 70, Friday morning, charging each with class B felony forgery in connection with the separate incidents involving stolen checks, Nashua police said in a written statement.

Copeland, of 6 Van Buren St., is accused of passing a check that had been stolen from an Amherst resident, the statement said.

Benitez, of 6 Williams St., is accused of passing a check in excess of $500 that had been stolen from a city resident, the statement said.

Both men were later released on personal recognizance bail pending their arraignments in Nashua District Court.
