Dump hours

Trash will be collected and the Four Hills Landfill open during the two holiday weeks, except for Christmas and New Year’s days, the Division of Public Works’ Solid Waste Department announced.

Regular curbside collections will occur from Monday through Wednesday during the holiday weeks, Dec. 22-24 and Dec. 29-31. The Four Hills Landfill and Nashua Recycling Center will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and will reopen on the pair of post-holiday Fridays.

Also, the landfill has extended hours Saturday and Sunday to help residents with storm cleanup. The dump will be open those days from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Curbside collection routes for Thursday will be picked up Friday, and Friday routes will be picked up Saturday.

The Solid Waste Department office will be closed Dec. 26, but the office will be open Jan. 2.

During the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 3, the Solid Waste Department will pick up any extra trash that doesn’t fit into the trash carts.

The trash must be in bags or barrels and must be placed at least 3 feet from the cart. This collection is limited to excess holiday household trash and doesn’t include bulky items or household cleanouts.

Residents are urged to use the recycling program for cardboard – both gift boxes and corrugated boxes. In addition, most wrapping paper can be put into the recycling bin; however, foil papers aren’t accepted.

Extra bins – but not barrels – for recyclables may be used and will be picked up in the regularly scheduled collection week.

Be sure all cardboard is flattened and cut down to a size not to exceed 30 inches by 30 inches.

Christmas trees will be picked up curbside from Jan. 5-16, weather permitting.

Tree stands and ornaments must be removed. Trees shouldn’t be put in plastic bags and won’t be picked up if they’re stuck in ice or snow or placed on top of a snow bank.

Trees should be placed curbside by 6:45 a.m. on the regular collection day during this two-week period.

And from Solid Waste to all: “Happy holidays.”
