Death at jail linked to molesting
The Brookline man who hanged himself in Hillsborough County jail while awaiting trial had been accused of molesting a 4-year-old girl.
Hillsborough County Corrections officials say Andrew Connors, 53, of Brookline, was found dead around 2:35 a.m. Friday. EMTs could not revive him and he was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.
Assistant Corrections Superintendent David Dionne said Connors had been alone in his cell. Connors was being held on bail awaiting trial on a sexual assault charge.
Brookline police were alleging Connors molested the girl at his home at 10 Lorden Lane while the girl’s mother and grandmother were looking at yard sale items in the basement of that residence. Connors denied touching the girl.
The assault allegedly took place April 25, according to Milford District Court documents.
James O’Mara, superintendent of the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections, said the investigation into Connors’ death is ongoing and that he may have more information later this week. At this time, the death is believed to be a suicide, he said.
