Condemned building's owner has plan to rent
The town will review a proposal from the owner of the condemned apartment house at 30 Forest Road for bringing the 12-unit building into compliance with Wilton building and health codes.
Paul Schaefer, the building’s owner, presented the plan to the Board of Selectmen on Monday.
Since the selectmen had “just received the papers,” according to Selectman Richard Rockwood, no decisions were made on the plan. The proposal will be forwarded to Health Inspector Rise Smythe-Freed and Building Inspector Keith Carmen for comment.
Rockwood said he “still has some reservations” about the proposal, including the plan to rent apartments as they are approved, fearing that once the building has occupants, no more work will be done.
Selectmen condemned the building in November, citing numerous health and safety issues.
