City plans curbside pickup of soft yard waste
NASHUA – The city will begin special curbside collections of soft yard wastes, metal and bulky items Monday, April 20.
The weekly pickup of soft yard wastes – leaves, grass clippings and pine needles – will take place on the same day as trash. Soft yard wastes must be put into either paper compost bags or 32-gallon barrels. Barrels and bags must be at curbside by 6:45 a.m. on collection day, and must be separated from the trash carts by at least 3 feet or placed on the other side of the driveway.
Plastic bags may not be used for soft yard wastes, and leaves, grass clippings and pine needles should never be disposed of in the trash. Soft yard waste may be taken directly to the Nashua Recycling Center at the Four Hills Landfill, 840 W. Hollis St., during normal operating hours, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
Residents may call to make an appointment for special pickup of bulky items and metal items starting the week of April 13-17. Up to five bulky items per year, such as a mattress or a chair, and up to three oversize metal items, such as refrigerators, will be picked up by the Solid Waste Department at no charge.
Residents should call 589-3410 by Friday at noon to get onto the following week’s pickup list for metal or bulky waste, and they must have the items at the curb on Monday morning by 6:45; pickup will be sometime during the week.
