Chairman retained

It looks as though the chairman position on the board of education will stay the same for 2009.

Tom Vaughan, a member of the board since 2007, was elected as the chairman at the start of 2008, replacing Rick Dowd.

At a caucus held Dec. 22, board members voted unanimously to keep Vaughan as the board’s chairman. He received praise from other members, including Dowd, for his ability to keep the board on task and prepared for meetings.

“I believe Tom has done an outstanding job this past year,” Dowd said.

There will be a change in the board’s secretary position, however. Robert Hallowell was nominated as the new secretary, replacing Jack Kelley.

The board will have to make both votes official at its organizational meeting Monday.
