Cash, lottery tickets stolen in store burglary

An overnight burglary at a south Hudson variety store netted thieves some cash and a bunch of lottery tickets, police said Wednesday.

Sometime late Tuesday night or in Wednesday’s wee hours, burglars broke into Roger’s Variety, 95 River Road, through the rear door, police said. Once inside, the suspects targeted the store’s ATM and its stock of lottery tickets at the sales counter.

They tried, unsuccessfully, to remove the ATM machine, as it is secured to the floor, police said. Instead, they broke into the machine and stole what police called an undetermined amount of cash. The suspects also took an undetermined number of lottery tickets, police said.

A caller alerted police at around 5:30 Wednesday morning after discovering the break, and officers from the department’s Crime Scene Team responded and processed the scene, police said.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident, police added. No suspects have been identified as of yet.
