Care advised after accidental shooting
Pelham Police are reminding residents to be careful with firearms and to “treat every gun as if it were loaded” in the wake of an accidental shooting at a local gun dealership Wednesday.
Police were called to Affordable Firearms on Bridge Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. for a report of an accidental discharge.
Nobody was struck by the shot from the .45-caliber handgun, police said, but the unidentified male employee who was holding the gun when it discharged suffered an unspecified injury.
Police said he was attempting to pull the slide back on the gun when it went off, but left to seek medical attention before officers arrived, police said. Police said this is the first reported accidental discharge at the local firearms store since it opened.
The Police Department offers instruction in gun safety, including free gunlocks and educational material for parents and children, police said. The incident remains under investigation, police said. Anyone with questions on firearms and safety can call Sgt. Anne T. Perriello or Lt. Gary Fisher at 635-2411.
