Budget, road fixes win; fire truck stalls

Voters were in approval mode early Wednesday night at Town Meeting but many failed to see the benefits of buying a new fire truck.

The budget, which selectmen referred to as “level funded,” was OK’d by voters after selectmen cut another $6,000, bringing the approved amount to $3.76 million.

Voters also were in favor of Article 5 asking for $104,533 for the Safe Routes program and Article 6 for $60,000 for road and bridge improvements, which came down to a count 137-109.

Another article that brought up some opposition was Article 4 asking for a new fire truck. The amount for the truck was reduced but residents were still skeptical whether the 20-year-old truck needed to be replaced.

Others questioned whether the emissions systems in newer fire trucks were up to standards after hearing reports about failures.

The meeting did not finish before deadline. Check nashua telegraph.com Thursday for updates.
