Bicyclist struck by driver, injured

PELHAM – A bicyclist was struck Sunday afternoon on Mammoth Road by a teenager driving a 1999 Cadillac DeVille, who apparently failed to yield at a stop sign, police said.

David Hutchings, 50, of Windham, was thrown from his bicycle, and suffered a serious head injury despite his helmet, police said. Pelham Fire rescuers took him to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, and he was later transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

The crash took place at the intersection of Keyes Hill and Mammoth roads, at about 5:20 p.m.

Police did not identify the 16-year-old driver, who was unhurt. The teen had come to a stop at the end of Keyes Hill Road, then began to cross toward Tallant Road when his Cadillac hit Hutchings, police said.

Police are still investigating.
